Meet the Mini Gears team
Mini Gears is a family owned subcontract engineering company supplying to a wide range of industries on a global basis. We specialise in the manufacture of precision machined components, gears and gear racks. All our customers have free technical support from our Technical Sales Engineers and Directors, who are always on hand to assist with engineering challenges.
Paul Darwent trained as a Design Engineer at Simon Engineering before joining Mini Gears in 1983. In 1993 Paul bought the remaining 50% of the company and as a family company his involvement encompasses a wide range of responsibilities. Paul particularly enjoys the future planning of new markets and is still very active in the Sales & Marketing operation of the company and spreading a positive message to the very valued workforce.
Peter Durkin comes from a gearbox design background and has been in the gear manufacturing business for over 30 years. He has been with Mini Gears since 1993 and within his role he looks after the design / cost effectiveness of customers’ products.
Nigel has many years’ experience in machining and joined Mini Gears in 1995. Having worked in various machining departments on the shop floor, he gained a good understanding of identifying customer requirements and the type of work that fits into Mini Gears’ current capabilities. Nigel moved into a technical sales role in 2007 to look after developing new business and visits customers and prospects on a regular basis.
David Jobe comes from a valve manufacturing background with over 20 years’ experience in the manufacture of both HVAC and nuclear valves. He is a time served engineer with 15 years’ experience in a machine shop & assembly management role. David joined Mini Gears in January 2015 and oversees all production related matters.
Our Technical Sales Team…
Neil comes from a manufacturing background and, with over 45 years’ experience, he has been involved in all aspects of manufacturing from the shop floor to Production and onto Sales. Neil has been with Mini Gears since 1998 and now manages the Sales Team. Neil oversees customer requirements from quotation through to final despatch of parts including production planning, liaising with the Quality Team, to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
Malcolm served his apprenticeship at a machine tool company. After completing his apprenticeship he worked as a skilled Cylindrical Grinder in the Air Compressor Industry before moving into production engineering and project engineering. Then he concentrated in the production, design and sales of specialised bespoke worm gearing which he has been involved in for the last 25 years.
Neil Darwent joined the family business in 1998 and worked on the shop floor for many years in various departments. After gaining a good knowledge of the company and procedures he joined the Technical Sales Team. Working with our customers Neil is involved in quoting and planning for new and existing work.
