A proud moment in our 60th anniversary year as we are named Business of the Year (£10m+ Turnover).
Some moments mean just that little bit more, and for everyone at Mini Gears, winning Business of the Year (£10m+ Turnover) at the Stockport Business Awards 2026 was certainly one of them.
Founded by Reginald Darwent in 1966, Mini Gears began with a vision and a determination to build a successful engineering business. Sixty years on, celebrating this achievement alongside Reginald himself made the evening particularly special and a moment of real pride for the whole team.
To look back on how far the business has come, from those early beginnings to the precision engineering company we are today, was a wonderful reminder of the hard work, dedication and people that have shaped our journey.
As we celebrate this award and our 60th anniversary, we are incredibly proud of our history, grateful to everyone who has been part of it, and excited about what the future holds for Mini Gears.
Six decades of precision engineering
Over the past 60 years, Mini Gears has continued to grow and develop, embracing new technologies, expanding our capabilities and building lasting relationships with customers across a wide range of industries.
Today, we operate from our 35,000 sq. ft. facility in Stockport, with more than 100 machines and a skilled team of over 90 people. While the business has evolved considerably since 1966, our commitment to quality, precision and customer service remains at the heart of everything we do.
Our journey is a reflection of the people who have contributed to the business over the years, helping to establish Mini Gears as a trusted name in precision gear manufacturing and engineering.

Today, Mini Gears provides precision gear manufacturing, CNC machining and associated engineering services to customers operating in some of the most demanding industries.
Our capabilities support a wide range of sectors, including:
Aerospace – precision-engineered components for demanding applications where quality, reliability and accuracy are essential.
Defence – manufacturing support for critical applications where dependable engineering and high standards matter.
Stairlift – precision gears and machined components that help support reliable movement and performance.
Rail – engineered components for applications where durability, consistency and reliability are important.
Motorsport – precision manufacturing to support demanding performance requirements.
Nuclear – quality-focused engineering for applications requiring dependable, carefully manufactured components.
With capabilities including gear cutting, rack cutting, gear grinding, CNC milling and turning, and five-axis machining, we work closely with our customers to deliver precision-engineered solutions to suit their requirements.
Our certifications, including AS9100D and BS EN ISO 9001:2015, reflect our commitment to maintaining high standards and continually developing the way we work.
Although we are incredibly proud of how far Mini Gears has come, we know that our success is built on much more than machinery and manufacturing capability. It comes from the people, partnerships and shared commitment behind every project.

Our focus remains on investing in our capabilities, developing our people, maintaining the high standards our customers expect and building strong relationships with both existing and new customers.
We want to continue supporting customers across aerospace, defence, stairlift, rail, motorsport, nuclear and other sectors with dependable precision engineering and manufacturing expertise.
Our name may have stayed the same since 1966, but our ambitions continue to grow.
Winning Business of the Year is a wonderful milestone for Mini Gears, and we look forward to building on this achievement as we begin the next chapter of our story.
